Justin Garvin is the current College of Engineering Faculty Advisor of Iowa Baja Racing. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa and after graduation left to work for the United States Air Force Research Lab. Professor Garvin then returned to the University of Iowa to work at the IIHR - Hydroscience and Engineering. Soon after this, he began to teach full time. All of Professor Garvin's work has been computational, using computers to solve problems in the thermal sciences (i.e., heat transfer and fluid mechanics). His wife, Mona, is also a tenured professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa.
Away from the University of Iowa, Professor Garvin has enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife for four years and even competed in some dancing competitions. He golfs and lifts to stay fit, and enjoy's the simple things in life such as a pizza & ice cream date night with Mrs. Garvin. They will not be doing this foreseeable future, however, with a newborn on their hands.
