Ben Atzen

President

Ben is a 4th year Mechanical Engineering student. This summer, Ben has been an intern at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. While in Iowa, he enjoys College Football, and helping to craft a nationally competitive Baja car.

Eric Jones

Vice President

Eric is a 4th year Mechanical Engineering Student. His eventual goal is to become an Aerospace Engineer. He enjoys applying new techniques and information to what he designs and builds.

Paulina Kroczak

Secretary

Paulina is a 4th year Mechanical Engineering student with a minor in Mathematics and a certificate in Leadership Studies. Throughout my years at Iowa she has been involved in Baja, Dance Marathon, Students to Assist Recruitment, worked in the Admissions Office, and started a student organization called Art Hawks. This year in addition to her executive board position, she will be on the Front Suspension Design Team.

Carson Kruse

Treasurer

Carson and is a 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student. He joined Baja within a short time of arriving to Iowa and have already been involved in numerous projects. In addition to his executive board position, he will be a co-lead on the brake team. He is looking forward to taking on a larger role in the team and building upon his knowledge of both how the car and team run.

Kyle Scharm

Lead Designer

Kyle is a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering student with a certificate in Leadership Studies. He has been a part of Baja for 2+ years while working for CAMBUS. This year, he is serving as Lead Designer with his main project being the 2020 Rear Suspension design.

Bram Williams

Director of Public Relations

Bram is a Business Analytics/Information Systems Major. His job is to create, manage, and innovate Iowa Baja's media presence, as well as serve as liaison to the University and community at large. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music as well as sketching conceptual designs for futuristic cars.

Pierce Knarr

Social Media Coordinator

Pierce is a 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student. His job includes photography, video editing, and creating new ways to promote Iowa Baja on social media. In his free time he enjoys hunting, and football, and if you can’t tell, fishing.

Abby Denson

Abby is a 4th year Nursing Student. After joining Baja in her sophomore year, she was a member of the brake design team for Nighthawk, the 2019 National Competition Vehicle. This upcoming year she will serve as Member Coordinator alongside the executive board. She is looking forward to working with both new and returning members to help the club develop.

Justin Garvin - Advisor

Justin Garvin is the current College of Engineering Faculty Advisor of Iowa Baja Racing. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa and after graduation left to work for the United States Air Force Research Lab. Professor Garvin then returned to the University of Iowa to work at the IIHR - Hydroscience and Engineering. Soon after this, he began to teach full time. All of Professor Garvin's work has been computational, using computers to solve problems in the thermal sciences (i.e., heat transfer and fluid mechanics). His wife, Mona, is also a tenured professor in the Department of  Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa.

Away from the University of Iowa, Professor Garvin has enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife for four years and even competed in some dancing competitions. He golfs and lifts to stay fit, and enjoy's the simple things in life such as a pizza & ice cream date night with Mrs. Garvin. They will not be doing this foreseeable future, however, with a newborn on their hands.
