Baja NOW Week update: February 24, 2021+ Member Highlight

This past weekend, we started honing in on the finished product for one side of our front suspension. We got a lot of components welded.

We also worked on some CREO to get files to be waterjet. Kyle Scharm, lead designer, taught some general members about CREO and showed them how to make brake caliper mounts.

Our Wednesday meeting included our game plans for upcoming shop times.

Member Highlight: Gannon O’Brien

Gannon is a third year student from Cascade, Iowa, studying Mechanical engineering.

He has a co-op scheduled for next fall at Lyondell-Basell in Edison, NJ. It is a chemical plant where Gannon will be serving as a general machinery engineer.

After graduating, Gannon is looking to work in manufacturing, particularly agriculture, construction, or renewable energy.

Q: What has Iowa Baja taught you so far?

A: “So far, Baja has taught me an overview of how a design to finish product process works, including how it is not a straight line process. I have also learned how to effectively collaborate on an extremely involved engineering project.”

Q: What are you looking forward to in Baja?

A: “I am looking forward to seeing how the car performs, as well as how our 4WD system does.”

Q: What has been your favorite class so far?

A: “Let’s say Statistics has been my favorite class so far.”

Q: What are some of your favorite past-times?

A: “I enjoy watching Hawkeye sports and playing the guitar.”

Q: If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do with the money?

A: “If i won the lottery, the first thing i would do is a concert with all my friends with prime Led Zeppelin.”
