Baja NOW Weekly Update: Week of March 17, 2019
This week, Iowa Baja began to fabricate the A-Arms for the 2019 National Competition Vehicle. An A-Arm, also known as a control arm, is a hinged suspension link between the chassis and the hub which carries the wheel. Each side of the Baja Car has two front A-Arms, one upper and one lower. Top A-Arms are ¾" .065 Wall Chromoly while bottom A-Arms are 1" .065 Wall Chromoly. On previous iterations, we noticed that our lower A-Arms would kink. Through our analysis of the failure, we found the failure was due to the inability of that size of Chromoly to resist bending from our real-world applied loads. We then decided to use 1" Chromoly tube, which remedied the problem.
